3 words to double your success dealing with \"stubborn\" people

Do you have a boss who appears to be "stubborn" and doesn't listen to your ideas even when they are obviously brilliant?

If you ever tried to persuade someone powerful or someone much higher than you on the corporate ladder, you probably found it extremely difficult.

Sometimes, it feels like you're offering piles of gold for nothing, but they don't take it.

Even if they know it will be good for them and they have proof of data that they'll never lose, they ignore it.

It may feel crazy stupid!

What's the problem?

Here's one psychological challenge.

People like to buy, but they don't like to be sold.

They don't want to be persuaded because they feel they'd lose control, power, and authority.

So they choose to lose the promised benefit over losing what they already have - their freedom to decide on their own.

How can you persuade them without coming across as persuading?

How can you influence people without creating resistance?

What would you say to put someone who is more powerful than you at ease or make them feel more comfortable accepting your idea or offer?

There's one very short and genius phrase that significantly reduces the resistance.

It's the "but you are free to choose" phrase.

In 42 separate studies, adding "But you are free to decide" or "But the choice is yours" at the end of the request significantly increased compliance.

It is especially true when persuading someone who is truly benefiting from the offer but just doesn't like to be told what to do.

Giving people a choice feels like they are making a decision and having full control and freedom.

Also, if you say so, you will come across as neutral and not need them to make a specific choice.

You'll sound more reasonable and less needy.

That's how you'll be more successful in your influence.
