Authority is something that will elevate you quickly in your career and your business.
Beware that authority is 2-fold.
You may have personal authority as an expert.
And your position or title could grant you authority.
How can you build both and grow successfully?
First, if you can, create your own position.
One of my mentors, a successful entrepreneur, was able to get access and make a deal with the top bankers in the Australian region.
And that is when the appointments with these leaders were almost impossible to set up.
They didn't want to meet with just anybody.
What did he do to overcome this challenge?
He created an organization, a committee with a name related to the problem the financial institutions were solving.
And he appointed himself the president of this committee.
Then, with this title, he set up all necessary appointments to meet with top bankers and even got invited to their charity event.
There, he met all the key people he needed to know.
How can this story help you?
Your title communicates your authority.
Therefore, you should think strategically about it.
Negotiating a small change in your title can propel your career to the next level.
Think about who you want to be.
What will give you authority to participate in specific projects, business meetings, and decision-making processes?
How your next title should look and sound like?
Invent it and negotiate it.
It may save years of your career.
