The power of your words

Emotions are driving the world.

You don't believe me?

Let me tell you a story.

I went for a walk today, and it's a beautiful time in Minnesota when some of the colorful leaves are still there on the trees.

But many of them fell and made this pretty and colorful carpet everywhere.

The air smells like fall, with tones of old leaves and a hint of bonfire smoke.

It's quiet and warm.

And I walk along the road and think, "Why did I move here? Why did I spend my money and time to move to this area?"

The answer was right there in front of me.

Because of this road, because of these leaves.

And maybe because of the memory of walking on this road with my parents.

Emotions!

They moved me here to this area, making me comfortable and happy.

Then, I saw people walking and riding bicycles, and some of the people were riding motorcycles on the street.

I looked at the beautiful and expensive houses facing the river.

Why do people walk here?

Why do they ride here?

Why do people live here?

Emotions.

They like the view, they like the smell of the leaves, they like the beautiful sunset.

We make decisions and pay with our time, money, and effort to feel the life we want to live.

Warren Buffett said once that he doesn't need an expensive new house.

He is comfortable in his house, which he bought for $30,000.

Because it's warm, it has everything, and it's full of memories about his family.

That is what's really important.

What we feel is primary.

Everything else is secondary.

Emotions are driving the world.

Let me give you another example from the business world.

There's nothing as enriching, empowering, and emotional than a few words masterfully stitched together.

Words can inspire emotions and cause decisions, change, and transformation.

One of the ways of making your idea stand out is to use Contrasting.

Contrasting is described very well by Dr. Robert Cialdini, who has studied human psychology of influence for over 50 years.

We perceive things in comparison to each other, and therefore, white looks whiter when you put it next to black.

Exciting feels even more exciting when you put it right after something boring and dull.

Steve Jobs was a master of speaking and influencing people.

And there's one remarkable example I want to share with you.

Once, Steve Jobs wanted to steal the famous CEO of Pepsico, John Sculley, from his amazing business and make him work for Apple.

What he said to John is legendary.

To influence John's decision to abandon a well-paid and respectable position, he said:

"Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?"

What a beautiful example of Contrasting!

It really makes you feel the difference.

It evokes your emotions so you see what is really important in your life.

Emotions are driving the world.

Master your communication.

As you can quit trying to convince people, which only brings resistance, and start moving their hearts to give them hope and a path.
