Don't ask for a favor. Ask for an opportunity.
If you're waiting for your boss to be in a good mood to ask about your promotion or a raise, you're wasting your time.
Why?
Because it's a good trade for you but a bad trade for your boss.
If your boss makes a decision in your favor based on a good emotional state, then it sounds like your boss will be less objective at the moment.
Who will be later responsible for less objective decisions?
Who will be responsible for your missteps?
Who will regret this decision a week later when a challenging situation arises and you need help?
Your boss.
The feelings of disappointment and regret will be the cost of the favor.
So, instead of asking for a favor, ask for an opportunity.
In this case, you'll take full responsibility for the failure.
You'll be responsible for challenging situations.
And you don't need to wait for a time of less-objective decisions.
Make it a challenging trade for you but an attractive deal for your boss.
Pay your price for the opportunity and provide a guarantee.
Ask your boss what you can bet to prove that you're ready and committed.
Ask what will mitigate the risks.
For this conversation, you don't need to wait for your boss to be happy.
For your boss, it shouldn't look like a favor.
It's going to be a safe bet.
Therefore, you don't need to wait for a good mood.
You just need to wait till Monday.
Ask about your promotion soon and learn what is missing.
Make a better bet and ask again.
